((Nice long post for all of you to read. ;D To join in, make some Cadet characters that are just starting - note that they must be at least 16. Please join in! I can't do an entire RP on my own, after all. ))
~~Katy~~
Katy stood eagerly in front of the RWS building, waiting to be let in.
She was only one in a long line of Cadets awaiting their first day at war School, chattering excitedly to each other. Katy noticed that one person, however, was not chatting.
Not far ahead of her, a girl stood, looking at the ground. Despite this, she stood straight and Katy could see that she was much taller than herself - not that this was saying much. It would do the girl more justice to say that she was taller than most of the people nearby. Her skin was very pale, paler even than Katy's own, and a loose ponytail of wispy black hair reached down to her waist.
Katy ran her fingers through her own golden-blonde hair, thick and barely reaching her shoulders. She kept it short as it was easier to manage that way, and truly didn't see how the girl could stand it that long. But then, Katy mused, it was so fine that she would no doubt not notice the weight.
Katy finally got to the checkpoint and handed her papers to one of the the guards.
"Cadet Harson," the man said. "Go on in."
The guards were only ever at the entrance during an intake. The rest of the time, the Cadets building was monitored by technology alone.
The entrance room had walls and floors of cold, grey metal. It was undecorated and utilarian, an all-together unwelcoming place. But after all, it was not there to be welcoming.
Today, only first-years were in the room. It looked large and empty, and Katy would be glad to see the space fill up when the other cadets came tomorrow.
From across the room, she spotted the girl again. This time she stood backing into a corner and looking all around the room whilst tugging on her hair, and Katy could see her eyes were an emerald green. She seemed uncomfortable, so Katy decided to approach her.
"Hello," she said, holding out her hand to be shaken. "My name is Katherine, but everyone just calls me Katy."
"Hello Katy," said the girl flatly, folding her hands neatly behind her back. Slightly offended, Katy pulled her hand back. Determined as she was, though, she was not put off.
"What is your name?" she prompted.
"Aramina."
Katy was stung. Everything the Aramina did said that she didn't want to talk to her, but Katy had done nothing wrong that she was aware of. Katy noticed that in the interval of silence, Aramina stopped looking at her with a hard gaze and went back to looking around the room. Katy decided to try once more. Third time lucky - she hoped.
"Why did you enroll?" she asked.
Aramina shrugged. "It seemed like something to do," she said. "Actually, I think my parents wanted me to go here more than I wanted to come."
again, there was a silence. Finally, Katy snapped, "You could at least look at me when I speak!"
Aramina looked hurt. "I'm sorry," she mumbled, looking down at her feet.
"Sorry?" Katy repeated, disbelieving. "If you were really sorry, you would have done it in the first place."
"I..." she said, seeming unsure of how to continue. "It's something I'm not good at," she finished lamely. "I really am sorry I hurt your feelings. I swear I didn't mean to."
Katy noticed that Aramina was tugging her hair again, twirling it between her fingers.
"how can you not mean to not look at someone?" Katy asked scornfully. Aramina just shrugged again.
"I don't know," she said. "I can just never get people things right. I try, but it always comes out wrong."
Katy just rolled her eyes. She couldn't believe this girl.
"I give up," she said. "There's no point trying to talk to you."
Aramina looked dejected at that, but Katy didn't really care anymore. She deserved to be.
~~Meena~~
Meena was hurt by what Katy had said. It wasn't untill she had snapped at her that Meena even realised she was doing anything wrong.
Why does this always happen? she thought. I do my best, but I just can't seem to get anything right.
